Appreciate your thoughts on the X-A1. I recently picked one up as an everyday carry type of camera and it’s been fun to use.

Great to hear that an overlooked camera still gets some love. Just curious, what lens(es) are you using for an everyday carry?

Currently, just the TTArtisan 27mm. However, I found a first generation XC 16-50 for only $100US that should arrive soon. Should be a nice little travel pairing that didn’t cost a lot compared to Fuji’s other offerings.

I have another Fuji body and pro level lenses, but I save that for when I’m photographing with intent versus when I just want something spontaneous. Obviously, a smart phone fill that role, but it doesn’t feel the same.

I own and use both lenses you mentioned with my X-A1 (it’s the cheapest second hand X-series we can get in Indonesian market, where I’m based… so yes, I can use the body with the least precariousness, which helps me personally in making shots).
The XC lens came originally with the body, and they make so much sense together, but in general (unfortunately) I am not a Zoom person (so far… we’ll see in the future if I change my mind in this dept). I tend to take the most advantage of these small cameras I focused in the piece by putting tiny lenses on them. This way, the TTartisan AF 27mm makes so much sense, but it found its better half in my use in the X-E1—worth to say here that it’s also the case with the XC—as both catch infrared so much better than their more expensive counterparts: the original XF 27mm f2.8 vs. the TTartisan, and the XF 18-55mm kit for the XC. Just sharing what I have experienced here, I hope you don’t mind.
Thank you again for your comments, and wishing you the best time with your kit.

Nice story. I’m a Sony guy who also has an X-T30. I have the feeling that I would like to buy an X-A1 just for the heck of it. That sensor has always impressed me and if I purchased one, I would end up shooting my old manual Nikon ais lenses on it. Your story got me thinking about this again.

Hi! I’m still stubbornly holding on to my XM1 in 2026, as I find the images it gives very nostalgic. I picked it up in good condition for USD 180 during the pandemic. The main lenses I use are the Ttartisan 27mm f2.8 and the vintage Takumar 50mm f1.4.

Would you be so kind to share your go-to recipes?

I have too few resources on them online and appreciate your help.

    More power!

    Halo hola!

Thank you for replying. Your comment made me reread the piece, which came useful realizing how I thought two years ago, which has evolved today—for better or worse. As evolution is a slow process, I tend not to realize the shifts it has pushed through. Second thank you for that.

To answer your question: hold on to your X-M1 as long as possible (mine has dropped its internal battery since the time this piece came out, rendering it even more unreliable) and to help you do that, I usually tried out recipes from: Fuji X Weekly [https://fujixweekly.com/fujifilm-x-trans-i-recipes/], Shuttergroove [https://www.shuttergroove.com/fujifilm-film-simulation-recipes/], Andrei Dima [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLihmT24Im5I1lliw7jeUjl03-tveQQ4JR], and even randomly from social media posts (IG, Pinterest, Youtube) and also recipes made for newer sensors, such as from MGA [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lhGswSNFXp7koeqOPshTHXa6rsBM6VRrjkcxzD01-54/edit?gid=0#gid=0].

I also like to spend time (not too much) in Lightroom, although only shooting JPGs these days. It’s just something I enjoy. For that, I got many lessons just by following something like Daily Preset [https://thedailypreset.com/].

Hopefully this short message answer your need, and crossed fingers we can exchange more in the future!
